A Day In The Life Of Buddy The Black Budgie

Today started out like any other day, just flying around the cage - enjoying the new plants. The food was good, water was cold, and the other birds were all chatting about this and that. I had just settled down for a nice little nap, when I heard a new voice in the cage. I looked around to see who it was when I laid my little birdy eyes on the most beautiful new bird I had ever seen. She was hot pink, with a beautiful black crown that was so shiny and bright, you couldn't stop staring at it.

I had to talk to her. So, I tried to fly up and say "hello" to her, but I simply couldn't talk! I h

ad to grab a quick bite out of the feeder next to her so I wouldn't look dumb and then I flew off to the opposite side of the cage.

It wasn't long before my friend Bongo flew over to talk. He had seen me try to talk to the new bird, and figured that I had gotten shy. So, he talked to his mate, Fala, and found out about the new girl in the cage. It turns out her name was Gracie and she had just come from the store. She hadn't ever lived in a normal cage before and she was excited to meet everyone here - especially me! I couldn't believe it, she wanted to meet me?

Bongo said that he and Fala would be at the feed bowl with Gracie in about 10 minutes and I should come. I told him I would try, that I wasn't sure I could talk to a bird that beautiful. Bongo smiled at me and flew off.

I flew over to the mirror and primped and preened my feathers for a bit. I simply had to look my best if I was going to head over to the feed bowl and meet her. But I was so nervous, no new bird had ever made me this nervous before! I was worried that I would say something stupid or look foolish to her. Oh, she was so pretty - I didn't want to mess anything up.

It seemed like the 10 minutes flew by - figuratively speaking - and I saw that Bongo and Fala were already at the bowl with Gracie. I knew that I had to go, but I was so nervous, my tummy felt like I had been eating butterflies all day. I flew up to the feed bowl and circled it a couple of times. Bongo gave me an odd look as if to say, sit down!

I finally landed next to Bongo and grabbed a quick bite out of the food bowl. When I looked up, I noticed that she was looking right at me. It's a good thing that she couldn't tell I was blushing!

"Hi" she said "I'm Gracie." She batted those pretty eyes at me. I almost couldn't talk for a moment - but I finally managed to squeak out "I'm Buddy." She flew over and landed next to me. She sat still for a few seconds, then grabbed a bite to eat and munched it quietly. I wondered if she was as nervous as I was.

"Well, Fala and I have to go check on the egg. We'll catch up with you two later." And, with that, both Bongo and Fala flew off and left me and Gracie alone. It wasn't long before Gracie leaned over and nuzzled her head into my neck. Oh my goodness! I thought - she likes me! After that I wasn't nervous any longer. We sat and talked about all kinds of things, from what she had seen in the pet shop to what the other birds were like here. Everything was going great, and I think that I have finally found my mate!
